Like many photographers I have looked through the books by Ansel Adams. They were a source of great inspiration, helped me a lot in the dark room, but then they were also a source of some anxiety. More often than not I got the feeling that I would never come up to these kinds of standards. But some of the things that he wrote have helped me a great deal and do so to this day. Here are three quotes:
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.”
“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense and is thereby a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”
“With all art expression, when something is seen, it is a vivid experience, sudden, compelling, and inevitable.”
― Ansel Adams (1902-1984)
